AI-Powered Insurance CRM with SOC2 + HIPAA Compliance
Rendered Source, a US-based software development company, was engaged to build an AI-powered insurance sales CRM for the US market. I served as the lead architect over a 5-year engagement (2020-2025), responsible for technology selection, platform architecture, and hands-on development. The project was delivered by a team of developers, a designer, DevOps, and project management.



The Challenge
The platform needed per-agency deployments - fully isolated environments for independent insurance agencies. It had to support omni-channel communication (phone, video, email, chat) and enable an automated, agent-less insurance purchasing experience. The architecture had to account for SOC2 and HIPAA requirements at the infrastructure level.
Solution
Tech Stack Selection
Chose ASP.NET for its enterprise stability and long-term support, Angular because it's a full framework that pairs naturally with .NET, and PostgreSQL because insurance data - policy hierarchies, agent relationships, compliance audit trails - is deeply relational.
Architecture
Designed the platform on AWS Fargate with environment isolation, encrypted data handling, and logging built for compliance audits. This gave the team a solid foundation when they later went through SOC2/HIPAA certification.
AI Evolution
Started with Amazon SageMaker to predict deal outcomes across pipeline stages, then migrated to ML.NET when it proved cheaper and simpler. Built the initial chatbot on Amazon Lex, then replaced it with a custom ChatGPT API implementation for more flexibility. Knowing when to switch tools saved months of workarounds.
Agile Stakeholder Engagement
Led event storming sessions and product brainstorms with the Rendered Source CEO and the client's investor - preparing agendas, facilitating, and sending follow-ups.
MVP in 4 Months
Delivered the first working version - a basic CRM for managing contacts and deals - in 4 months. The omni-channel capabilities, AI integrations, and insurance-specific workflows were built over the following years.
